Can You Imagine?

04/28/2015

Can you imagine hiring an employee for less than 30 cents per hour? Sounds very third world doesn't it. How about an employee that never sleeps? Now we are getting somewhere. What about an employee that never complains, never takes vacations and always looks their best? You have got to be kidding, right?

Imagine an employee that shows your customers commercial or tutorial videos or answers specific questions about your products. Now consider that this employee will never have a bad attitude or show up late for work. This employee is even willing to work more hours than you are.

Employees like this do exist. No, I am not talking about exploiting some poor wretched soul. Unless of course you consider web designers poor wretched souls! Hey! Watch it now, let's all play nice. All kidding aside, a website makes a great employee when all things are considered. Once established, a website is available to your visitors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A well designed website provides answers to visitor’s questions, guidance relating to your products and services, as well as a sales person that always says what you want them to say. Not bad, when you consider the fact that you don't have to buy a website health insurance, give it paid vacations, or worry about whether it will complete its work on time.

I mentioned an employee for less than 30 cents an hour; this is arrived at by calculating the hourly cost of a $2,500 website over one year. This works out to about 28.5 cents per hour. Since most websites cost more in the first year (development costs etc.) the cost actually goes down the longer you have the website. Now how many employees can make that claim?
