Online Shopping Mimics Gas prices. It's true; as gas prices rise, online shopping increases. Several studies show a direct correlation between fuel prices and online shopping. It makes sense. Higher fuel prices mean less discretionary income, which leads to less physical shopping. Why would you drive to several stores searching for the best deal when you can go online and comparison shop?

Fuel prices not only direct where we shop, but they also impact the cost of goods and services. Transportation costs increase with higher fuel prices which leads to product inflation. Inflation further reduces discretionary income driving more online sales.

Regardless of the lure of online shopping, people still want immediate gratification. Area websites provide access to local products. Consumers may be willing to drive if they can purchase a product immediately.

As fuel prices rise, make sure your website is up to date. With or without e-commerce options, a local website has advantages.
