Does Your Website Focus on Features or Benefits?

Does your website focus on the features of your product or service or does it focus on the benefits? Many people don't recognize the difference. The difference between focusing on the features of your product and promoting the benefits your products offer are huge!

Many of the websites we visit tout the magnificent attributes of the wonderful products and services they offer their visitors. Although every single word may be true we often find ourselves yawning then moving on to another website. Subconsciously we understand the difference between features and benefits but we don't always apply the lessons we have already learned.

Did I say, already learned? Yes I did! We all learned the difference between features and benefits years ago, most of us learned about them as small children. Don't you remember? "Eat your vegetables, they are healthy for you," wasn't exactly the most motivational speech we ever heard. That is because the fact that vegetables are healthy for us is a feature of vegetables, not a benefit that is readily recognizable to a small child. Now try, "Eat your vegetables and you will grow up to be big and strong." This is a much better motivator and one that offers a benefit that many small children understood. Try this one, "Eat your vegetables and then you can have desert." Now there is a benefit we can all relate to. Mom and Dad instinctively understood that the features were important but it was the benefits that closed the deal.

Consider the features of your product and or service, what benefits do they create for your customers? That is what your visitors want and need to hear about. The fact that you offer a nice haircut for a reasonable price is wonderful, but when I hear that I will look my best without cleaning out my wallet that is when I set the appointment.

The Budget Inn Motel in Denison, Iowa has a new website. The site is responsive and offers area information, accommodation information and you can make a reservation online.

The Chamber and Development Council of Crawford County has a new Community Calendar. Along with a traditional monthly view the calendar offers a list and daily view that are responsive along with the ability to send email reminders of events and create ICS files for import in to other calendars.

The new Boulders Inn & Suites Hotel in Holstein Iowa will be opening in October of 2015. The hotels new website is responsive and provides details about rooms and amenities as well as information regarding the 200 seat conference center. The conference center is part of the new hotel and will present media options for business and personal gatherings
