2020 has been a
thought-provoking year. Most of
us won't be sad to see it go.
Global turmoil, elections, the
virus, restrictions, and more
all feed into the anxiety that
is 2020. Politicians and
political appointees don't seem
to be able to get on the same
page. Do this, don't do this, do
that, don't do that. It is
enough to make us pull out our
hair. With 2020 preparing to
become a memory, what should we
expect from 2021?
Before
we address 2021, I would like to
share a little story with you.
Boxes seem to be plentiful
around the holidays. Like most
little boys, Our 4-year-old
Grandson likes to play with
boxes, and recently he brought
one into the living room. I
asked what was in the box, and
he gave me the cutest answer. He
said, "Anything." I said,
"What?" And he repeated,
"Anything." I requested that he
open the box so I could see
inside. He complied and showed
me the box was empty. With a
sweeping gesture, he said, "See,
it is anything." Then I realized
that through the power of a
four-year-olds imagination, the
empty box could be anything he
wanted it to be. If only we
could see things so clearly!
Now back to 2021. That empty
box full of promise. I believe
it can be anything we want it to
be (a sweeping gesture for
effect). Each of us decides how
we react to what happens, why
not choose to act positively.
When things go wrong, resolve to
turn the negative into a
positive. I realize this is
idealistic, but it is leaps and
bounds better than the
alternative. I think if a
four-year-old can see the
possibilities, we can too.
