Marketing Mistakes and Lessons

Have you ever made a marketing mistake? Have you spent money on a promotion that didn't create the exposure you desired? If so, the experience probably wasn't a total loss due to the lessons learned in the process.

A great deal of marketing prowess is developed through experience. Even Fortune 500 Advertising Agencies don't "get it right" 100% of the time. They do however use their experience to "get it right" much more often than someone with no experience at all. Applying the knowledge that experience gives us offers the same advantage whether we are a Fortune 500 Company or a small business.

Correcting marketing mistakes is generally easy unless a mistake creates negative exposure. If the negative perception is lingering then the best strategy is to address the problem thoughtfully and directly. Move on if the perception is fleeting. You can address fleeting negative perceptions by making sure your next marketing campaign or promotion is on the mark.

The amount of exposure we receive from a given promotion isn't always readily apparent. Long term strategies built on good faith promotions generally provide solid long-term results. But you already knew that from experience didn't you?
