Many small business owners overlook news releases because they fear their business is not newsworthy. News releases are more credible than advertising because consumers know that ads are trying to sell your products.

Due to their editorial style, Advertorials and News releases draw less skepticism than advertisements. These formats often elicit a third-party endorsement effect.

Sending news releases to the media creates brand recognition and keeps the public informed of your business. You may be surprised at how many newsworthy items your business generates.

Here are a few questions to help you identify newsworthy events within your organization.

Is your business offering any educational workshops? Are any notable professionals going to be presenting the material?

Is your business announcing a new or improved product or product line?

Has your business or employees won any awards or been recognized for excellence?

Has your business had any notable personnel changes?

Are you celebrating a business anniversary?

Has your business purchased any cutting-edge equipment?

These are just a few of the many newsworthy items that occur at businesses regularly. Media will not publish all news releases, but the ones that are will save you money on advertising.
