Do It Yourself
Many people want to
maintain and update their websites themselves. Some are good at it, others are,
well lets just say some are good at it. The people that are good at it tend to
update regularly and stay with a consistent theme through out their website.
Others don't stick to a regular schedule, in some cases it is hard to tell if
they have ever updated at all. And then there are the few cases where they not
only don't update regularly, but they also seem to want to sabotage their own
website.
They use big, bold print with alternating colors, graphics that
don't match the look of the site at all and at least six months out of date at
all times. Trust me, it happens. Why would they do this? I have come to the
conclusion that either they are aesthetically impaired or they wanted the update
to stand out so why not make it big and gaudy.
Very few things damage a
site more than out of date content but an inconsistent look runs a close second.
Combining the worst elements of website maintenance can only lead to one thing,
and that is a website that drives visitors away.
If you maintain your
own website stay within the boundaries set by the look and feel of the original
layout and update your content regularly. A website designer isn't always
necessary to maintain your site. It is however important to take the same
professional approach. |

Weird (sometimes dangerous) Things To do!
|
1. Look through a window and when someone is on the other side
shout "OH MY GOD, I'M HIDEOUS!" 2. Put a Dora the Explorer
doll in the middle of Wal-Mart. When someone tries to pick it up yell "SWIPER NO
SWIPING". 3. Show up late to work and when your Boss asks
why say your pet rock had a seizure.
4. Go jump on a random guys back and yell "THE SKY IS FALLING
RUN MAN RUN" and see what happens.
5. Blow up a balloon, then ask someone to pop it, when
they do, start screaming. 6. When The Money Comes Out The
ATM, Scream "I Won!, I Won!" "I Won!, I Won!"
7. Go to the mall, find a random old guy and yell,
"GRANDPA! YOUR STILL ALIVE! ITS A MIRACLE".
8. Buy an ice cream, ask the cashier if they believe
in unicorns then squish the cone on your forehead.
9. Follow strangers around a store and spray everything
they touch with disinfectant. 10. Go up to a really
large man and hug him while yelling GRANDMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Password Padding
You can make passwords memorable and
secure by using password padding according to Steve Gibson of Gibson Research
Corp. (GRC). I will attempt to summarize but please read more about the topic at
the Gibson Research
Corporation web page.
Since hackers almost always have to "guess"
what your password is using dictionary or brute force attacks, padding your
password with numbers, capital letters and special characters can make all the
difference.
The fastest method tested with the Password “Search Space” Calculator on
the GRC site would take only 1.47 seconds to figure out a password like
(passamazon), not using the parenthesis. Add a capital letter and some numbers
like this (passAmazon78 ) and the time needed increases to 1.04 years. Now try
adding some special characters ({*}passAmazon78{*}) and the time needed is 1.28
trillion centuries.
As it states on the GRC website you will need to
come up with your own padding formula that makes your passwords easy for you to
remember but difficult for hackers to decipher. |
