The Draft
The NFL Draft takes
place in the spring and each Team is given the opportunity to choose the players
they think will help them the most in the future. Each Team hopes they have
picked the best possible players and that each player will help them take a step
closer to the Super Bowl. Months of research go in to each draft pick. Players
are subjected to physical, psychological and intelligence tests as a team
determines if a Player will help them win.
Wouldn't it be nice
if every business could have an annual draft? Not only to draft employees but
equipment, technology, transportation, promotions and supplies as well. Can you
imagine what a draft like that might look like?
On day two of the draft General Motors selects
advertisements during the Super Bowl, the Final Four and the World Series.
Wal-Mart is on the board and has 10 minutes for their next selection. The
commentators would be fun to watch, "Well Jim, what do you think of GM's latest
pick?" "Bob, you know how I feel about the World Series and the Final Four,
these are strong choices for the American auto producer but the Super Bowl?
Hasn't that been done to death?"
This example is
probably taking things to far but each business does have an opportunity to
choose or draft the people and tools needed to be successful and like the Teams
of the NFL. Each choice could help, hurt or be a non factor in determining the
success of the team.
If a business spent
as much time researching, discussing and analyzing choices like NFL Teams do
when considering a draft prospect, these businesses would be several points
ahead of their competition. |
